Joe Amabile Shares Major Health Update 1 Week After Undergoing Surgery for Brain Tumor
Bachelor Nation fans finally have another major update from Joe Amabile following his frightening brain tumor diagnosis and surgery — and the reality star is opening up about what comes next.
The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise alum, famously known as “Grocery Store Joe,” revealed on August 12 that he is one week removed from brain surgery and is recovering better than he expected.

Joe previously revealed that doctors discovered a “blueberry-sized” lesion in his brain after he underwent a preventative full-body MRI. Additional testing suggested the growth was a glioma, leading doctors to recommend surgery.
The surgery took place at NYU Langone, where doctors were able to remove the tumor. Joe celebrated the news on social media shortly afterward, telling fans, “They got it all!”
Now, Joe is revealing more about his diagnosis — including the prognosis he received after the tumor was examined.
In a new video, Joe explained that doctors diagnosed him with a very low-grade astrocytoma. While the news was obviously frightening, he said the prognosis was “fairly good” and emphasized that doctors were able to remove the entire tumor.
But Joe’s medical journey isn’t completely over.

He explained that because of the nature of malignant brain tumors, doctors cannot know exactly what might remain at a cellular level. As a result, he will take a daily medication for the rest of his life intended to keep any remaining abnormal cells inactive. He will also undergo regular MRIs to monitor his condition.
Despite everything he has been through, Joe sounded remarkably optimistic while discussing his recovery.
He revealed that the beginning of his recovery was difficult, particularly when it came to speaking and dealing with pain. But one week after the operation, he said he was doing significantly better and was already off stronger pain medication, occasionally taking Tylenol when needed.
“I’m staying positive,” Joe told his followers, making it clear that he is determined to focus on the road ahead.
His wife, Serena Pitt, has been beside him throughout the terrifying experience. Serena recently shared a series of photos from their time at the hospital and confirmed that Joe was back home recovering. She also thanked the NYU Langone medical team for their patience, compassion and care.

The couple has been remarkably open about Joe’s health journey, documenting everything from the initial discovery of the lesion to the surgery and recovery.
Their story began on Bachelor in Paradise, where Joe and Serena met in 2021. Joe eventually proposed during Season 7, and the couple married in 2022.
Now, Serena is helping Joe through an entirely different chapter of their lives.
Bachelor Nation has also surrounded Joe with support. Fellow franchise stars including Joey Graziadei and Wells Adams sent messages of love after Joe’s latest update, while Serena simply wrote, “Getting better one day at a time.”
For fans who have followed Joe since his first appearance on The Bachelorette, the latest update is undoubtedly a huge relief. What began with a shocking discovery during a routine scan has now moved into a recovery and monitoring phase.

Joe still has a long road ahead, including lifelong medication and regular scans, but his latest message is clear: the tumor was removed, he is home, and he is determined to stay positive.
And as Joe continues healing, Bachelor Nation will no doubt be watching — and rooting for him every step of the way.
