Jason and Kathryn got engaged during their romantic trip to Lake Como, Italy, where Jason carefully planned the proposal without letting Kathryn know what was coming. The former Bachelorette star later opened up about how difficult it was to keep the engagement ring hidden throughout their European getaway.

According to Bachelor Nation, Jason originally thought the engagement would happen sometime during the summer or fall. However, as the couple prepared for their once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe, he decided that Lake Como was the perfect place to pop the question.

Jason even went to New York before the trip to purchase Kathryn’s custom engagement ring and spoke with her father before secretly taking the ring overseas. He had to be especially careful with his luggage because Kathryn began to notice that he was unusually protective of one particular bag.

The proposal ultimately went exactly as Jason hoped. During a photo shoot in Lake Como, he managed to keep Kathryn distracted before getting down on one knee. Kathryn later recalled how emotional the moment was and said she didn’t want it to end.
