Wells Adams Reveals His ‘Biggest Fight’ He’s Ever Had with Wife Sarah Hyland as They Celebrate Their Anniversary
Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland may have one of Bachelor Nation’s most beloved relationships, but the couple has had at least one surprisingly intense disagreement.
While celebrating seven years since their engagement, Adams opened up about the “biggest fight” he and Hyland have had during their relationship — and the reason behind it had nothing to do with the typical relationship drama fans might expect.
Adams, 42, marked the milestone on Instagram on July 7, sharing photos from the couple’s romantic 2019 engagement in Fiji. “I asked this woman to marry me 7 years ago today. Best decision I’ve ever made. Still can’t believe she said yes,” he wrote, adding, “Love you most @sarahhyland.”
The sweet anniversary post quickly turned into an opportunity for fans to ask Adams about his relationship with the Modern Family star. One follower wanted to know what the couple’s “biggest fight so far” had been.
Adams apparently had an answer ready.

According to his response, the couple’s biggest argument came down to a surprisingly serious sports rivalry.
“She roots for the Euros in the Ryder Cup,” Adams wrote, before adding, “But I get it. Who doesn’t love Rory, Shane and Tommy.”
In other words, the disagreement involved golf — specifically Hyland’s support for European players during the Ryder Cup.
Adams’ response appeared to be delivered with a healthy dose of humor, especially as he acknowledged some of the golfers Hyland was apparently rooting for, including Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood.
For fans who might have expected a bombshell revelation about their marriage, the answer was certainly unexpected. Instead of revealing a major relationship conflict, Adams essentially showed that even their biggest arguments can apparently come down to sports.
The couple’s relationship began after Adams caught Hyland’s attention when he appeared on Season 12 of The Bachelorette. Hyland openly expressed her interest in Adams on social media, and the pair eventually began dating in 2017.
Adams proposed to Hyland during a romantic trip to Fiji in July 2019. He later shared photos from the proposal, including images of the couple on the beach shortly after he popped the question.
Their wedding plans were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the couple eventually tied the knot in August 2022 at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California. Their wedding was attended by family, friends, Bachelor Nation stars and several of Hyland’s Modern Family costars.
The couple has continued to publicly celebrate their relationship. On their fourth wedding anniversary in August 2026, Hyland described Adams as her “best friend” and said she would choose him “in every lifetime.”
Adams has also continued to gush over his wife. On their latest anniversary, he shared some of the first photos the pair ever took together and wrote that he was “absolutely and completely in love” with her in those early pictures — adding that nothing had changed.
So while Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland may occasionally find themselves on opposite sides of a golf rivalry, their relationship appears stronger than ever.
And considering Adams jokingly described this sports disagreement as their “biggest fight,” fans probably don’t have much relationship drama to worry about from this couple anytime soon.
