Mel Owens has been removed as the lead of The Golden Bachelor after facing backlash from his recent controversial remarks.
During his appearance on the In the Trenches podcast (later aired by MGoBlue with Jon Jansen), Owens shared his preferences for contestants:
The former NFL linebacker and newly announced star of The Golden Bachelor Season 2, ignited immediate outrage after revealing on the In the Trenches podcast (June 4, 2025) that he instructed producers he would “cut” any contestant aged 60 or over, expressing a preference for women aged 45–60, and requesting they avoid ones with “artificial hips and wigs” Owens defended his stance as being “just honest” and distinguishing this as a Golden, not Silver, Bachelor.
Now that he’s not the lead anymore, fans are eagerly waiting to find out who the new Golden Bachelor is going to be.
