Joan chose not to engage in intimacy during the Fantasy Suite dates, focusing instead on building emotional connections with her suitors.
“I decided almost even before I went on The [Golden] Bachelorette that fantasy suites needed to be like my own personal version of them, that I didn’t feel comfortable having a physical relationship with more than one person and so, my fantasy suites were really more about emotional intimacy than physical,” she told Parade.
According to Joan, the men respected her decision. “You gotta think, the person you’re potentially ending up with probably does not want to think of you, last week, having slept with the guy he hangs out with,” she says. “It’s just weird.”
“At this age, it takes a little time to get to know somebody,” she said. “Sometimes there’s love at first sight, and sometimes you need more time. I was looking for a committed relationship, somebody I was going to leave this journey with to see how it would work in the real world. Like, let’s date.”
The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos revealed how she made sure that she didn’t miss any red flags among her suitors before she made her final choice.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Joan shared the boundaries she established to ensure she doesn’t overlook any red flags among her remaining suitors. Her hometown dates with Chock Chapple, Guy Gansert, Pascal Ibgui, and Jordan Heller are set to air on Wednesday, October 23. Joan began by addressing the overnight Fantasy Suites, where she’ll be spending time with three of the men. She noted, “I don’t love public displays of affection. That’s great you’re doing it, but no one really wants to see it. I was very conscious of that.”
However, Joan acknowledged that every Bachelor Nation lead must navigate their journey in their own way, and what was right for her might not be right for everyone. She said, “Everybody needs to do it their way. I’m not judging. The physical part is important at every age, but I think it’s more important when people are younger. Each of us needs to engineer the journey so it works best for us.”
