Charles Ling Reveals Why He Applied For Joan’s Season

Charles Ling’s journey on The Golden Bachelorette has resonated with many viewers, especially given his heartfelt story. After losing his wife of 36 years to a brain aneurysm, he found himself navigating the complexities of grief and loneliness.

His daughters have played a crucial role in supporting him through this challenging time, encouraging him to embrace life and seek new connections.

Deciding to join the show was a significant step for Charles, as he explained that it wasn’t just about finding love again, but also about rediscovering joy and companionship. He’s eager to honor the memory of his late wife while also being open to the possibility of a new relationship with Joan Vassos. His vulnerability and authenticity have made him a fan favorite, as many appreciate his willingness to share his experiences and emotions.

In his interview with Bachelor Nation, Charles Ling opened up about the pivotal moment that led him to apply for The Golden Bachelorette. It was his daughter who first encouraged him to tune in to The Golden Bachelor. Although he’d heard of the show, he hadn’t taken the plunge to watch it.

He shared that when they watched the show, his daughter said, “Dad, I think this is a very fascinating program and I think you’d find it interesting, plus it’s really time for you to move on…You deserve it.” Charles then applied for The Golden Bachelorette.”

Her words struck a chord with him, prompting Charles to apply for the show. He recalls the excitement of that decision: “And after a few days, the phone rang and the interviews started.”

To be honest, it’s really my daughter. When she visited me somewhere around spring, she watched a few episodes of the program in the past. And after dinner one night, she said, “Dad, you’ve got to see this program,” and I said, “What program?” and she said, The Golden Bachelor. And I’d heard about it, but I’d never watched it. She said, “Come here, Dad, please take a look. You might find it interesting.” I watched it for probably about 20 to 30 minutes, and then a phone call interrupted. And the next day, she started the topic all over again. We watched it, and she began the conversation of, “Dad, I think this is a very fascinating program and I think you’d find it interesting, plus it’s really time for you to move on… You deserve it.” So I applied myself and after a few days the phone rang and the interviews started.
